Billy Kirsch, (born April 26, 1958) is an American songwriter, pianist, and performer. He has written Grammy and Emmy nominated songs. His composition, "Holes In The Floor Of Heaven", co-written with Steve Wariner, won Country Music Association and Academy of Country Music awards for song of the year. As a pianist, Kirsch has appeared on television shows such as The View and Regis and Kathy Lee, and played on recordings of his original songs recorded by Wynonna Judd, Steve Wariner, Jimmy Wayne, John Berry, Chalee Tennison and others.

Early life

Billy Kirsch was born in New York City and grew up in Westchester County, New York. He started playing piano at age seven and was classically trained. By the time he was in high school, Kirsch was performing and writing his own songs. Musical influences include classical, jazz, and R&B. At age 19 Kirsch dropped out of college to pursue music full-time as a pianist in New York.

Musical career

Jazz pianist

Kirsch began his career as a jazz pianist and composer, appearing at the JVC Jazz Festival and popular New York City clubs such as Michael's Pub and Eddie Condon's, where he was a member of the Eddie Condon's All Stars. He recorded a jazz instrumental CD, "Southern Fried" which was released on Artifex Records.

Songwriting Success

Shortly after moving to Nashville in 1991, Kirsch had his first song recorded by Kenny Rogers. Kirsch's first Top 5 single was his song, "Is It Over Yet", recorded by Wynonna Judd on her second solo album. Kirsch played piano on the recording of the song. Another Kirsch composition, "Come Some Rainy Day", was recorded by Wynonna in 1997. Kirsch played piano on that record, he appeared in the video of the song, and made several TV appearances accompanying Wynonna.

In 1998 Kirsch and Steve Wariner co-wrote the number one hit song, "Holes In the Floor Of Heaven". The song won Song of the Year and Single of the Year awards from the Country Music Association and Song of the Year honors from the Academy of Country Music. The song also garnered a Grammy nomination for Country Song of the Year.

In 2003 Kirsch co-wrote the top 5 single, "Stay Gone", with country artist Jimmy Wayne. The song was honored with an NSAI Award. Kirsch also received an Emmy nomination for his song, "I Believe In The Mystery", which appeared on daytime television.

Kirsch's songs have been recorded by artists including Tim McGraw, Clay Walker, Patty Loveless, Doug Stone, Donny Osmond, Englebert Humperdink, Alabama, Mark Wills, Collin Raye, Lorrie Morgan, Rodney Atkins, Kellie Coffey, Buddy Jewell, John Berry and Lee Greenwood.

Kirsch has appeared as a pianist on recordings by Steve Wariner, Wynonna Judd, Kellie Coffey, John Berry, Chalee Tennison, Keith Stegall and Jimmy Wayne.

Entrepreneurship

In 2007 Kirsch combined his interests in education and performing to create the corporate event programs, "Team Building Through Song" and "Harnessing Your Creative Power". The programs enable adults in corporations, associations and non-profits to enhance their creativity to become more innovative and engaged in their work. Microsoft, The Walt Disney Company, Healthways, and Vanderbilt University have all utilized Kirsch's musical programs on creativity. He has presented keynote speeches for MPI, PCMA, ASTD, SHRM and The National Eligibility Workers Association.
